KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive has foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of electronic items using facility of Green Channel.
According to the details, Model Customs Collectorate of Preventive Karachi received information to the effect that same reputable importers are involved in misusing the facility of the Green Channel under WeBOC and are clearing their goods from Karachi Port Trust (KPT) by grossly mis-declaring description as LED lights and bulbs.
In the wake of the said information and on the directives of the Chief Collector of Customs Enforcement South, the Collector of Customs Preventive constituted a team under the supervision of ADC/DC Anti Smuggling Organization to thwart such attempts.
The team after strict vigilance successfully intercepted a 40-feet container No KKFU-725557-3 loaded on a trawler No TLT-374 near Central Plaza, Mobile Market, Sadder, Karachi.
On the spot questioning confirmed the information that the huge quantity of mobile phones in the container were brought into the country without payment of livable duty / taxes.
In absence of any proof of legal import thereof the said container, laden on a vehicle was escorted to ASO at NMB Wharf Karachi.
Sources informed Customs Today that from said container 27200 Q-Mobile, 35790 Assorted Brand and 531 Amazon Tablets worth millions of rupees were recovered.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the said goods were imported by M/s Digicom Trading (Pvt) Ltd, vide GD No KAPW-HC-7303 mis-declared as LED lights / bulbs and were cleared through the system under Green Channel. FIR of the case has been lodged and further investigations are still underway.
