ISLAMABAD: Customs North Region collected Rs 799.04 million under the head of withholding tax (WHT) against the assigned target of Rs 820 million by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) during October, 2016-17.
According to details, Customs Collectorate Gilgit-Baltistan collected surplus amount as WHT during the month of October. Gilgit-Baltistan was assigned target Rs 35 million but it collected Rs 55 million under the head of WHT during the month of October. Sources said that first consignment from China to Pakistan have arrived through GB during last week of October16-17, the consignment was comprises many trucks.
Sources said the performance of North Region was satisfactory regarding collection of all duty taxes, adding that during said period the Customs Collectorate Islamabad was assigned target of Rs230 million as WHT but the Collectorate collected Rs 206.71 million as WHT, the Customs Collectorate did not meet the target due to extra holidays and political instability during last week of October 2016-17.
Customs Peshawar was given target of WHT amounting to Rs 536.00 million for the month of October 16-17. The Collectorate collected Rs 526.83 million.
Customs Collectorate Sambrial was given target for collection of WHT amount to Rs10 million but Sambrial collected Rs 9.65 million.
It is necessary to mention here that North Region is comprises Customs Collectorate Islamabad, Sambrial, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), and Peshawar, the chief collector North heading all of Customs Collectorates.
