KARACHI: The Additional Collector-ADC, Model Customs Collectorate-MCC (Preventive) Feroz Alam Junejo has said that the MCC-Preventive has issued the security and surveillance alerts to all airports of the country in connection with taking strict measures regarding smuggling activities.
Talking to Customs Today, the Additional Collector (ADC) MCC-Preventive said that a specific ‘mafia’ is behind the smuggling of contraband items from Pakistan to other foreign countries.
Responding to a query, Junejo said that risk-profiling has already been increased by the Customs Department at all airports of the country adding that investigation into the cases of smuggling is being continued.
The Additional Collector further said that the MCC-Preventive in the first four months of the current year has done remarkable job in order to curb the smuggling of contraband items and also seized millions of worth smuggled items from Karachi Airport.
“The MCC-Preventive has also arrested dozens of accused who were attempting to smuggle contraband items including heroine, amphetamine chemical, mobile phones and other merchandise”, he added.
Responding to another query, Junejo said that a marathon investigation would also be conducted from all the accused adding that the Customs authorities have already presented those accused in court of law.
Citing a recent smuggling case, the additional collector said that more revelations are likely to be expected in coming days as the Customs authorities are determined to unveil the nexus of smugglers.
Answering to another question, Feroz Alam Junejo said that it was too early to say that the international hands are involved in smuggling activities.
