FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized smuggled foreign origin led acid rechargeable dry batteries (cells), 5600 kilograms worth Rs14,00,000 involving duty and taxes to the tune of Rs8,15,752 during a successful raid.
Sources told to Customs Today, that Assistant Director Syed ittrat Hussain received information regarding smuggling of rechargeable dry batteries cell on which he formed a team comprising Intelligence Officers Muhammad Saleem, Mansoor Nasir, Muhammad Siddique and Sepoys Muhammad Iqbal, Israr Ahmed, Mukhtar Ahmed, Muhammad Rafique and Muhammad Tariq to foil the attempt.
The customs team intercepted Mazda truck bearing registration no: MNQ-9886 loaded with foreign origin led acid rechargeable dry batteries of different brands and models which includes Shoto brand (48), Narada brand (48), Sacred Sun brand (24), BSB brand (24). The consignment was coming from Karachi.
The team asked the driver Mudassar Qayyum son of Abdul Qayyum to shows documents regarding legal import of the items. He produced a bilty no: 15244 dated 2-3-2017 issued by Lasani Movers, Cargo and Container Service, and a gate pass no: 2031 issued by Ghani Engineering System. But the customs authorities after finding some descrepanies seized the goods under Section 2(s), and 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 and 3(1) and 3(3) of the Import and Exports Control Act, 1950 punishable under Section 156(1) 89 of the Customs Act, 1969.
