LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation team seized huge quantity of non duty paid goods during a special operation on Friday morning.
Sources told Customs Today, that Director Customs Intelligence Rubab Sikandar received credible information that huge quantity of non duty paid goods were being smuggled. He immediately constituted a customs team under the supervision of Deputy Collector Ali Zeb Khan. The Customs Intelligence team established various check pickets at main entry and exit points and started checking of vehicles.
During checking the customs team intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration no: J-2133 near Sherakot and recovered 699 mobile phones of different brands, imported coconut juices of 100 crates, 30 pieces of LED. The market value of seized goods is Rs2 million.
The customs team asked the driver of the vehicle Kashif Mehmood to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of these goods but he remained failed to produce any legal documents. Upon his failure the Customs Intelligence team seized all the goods. Sources said that after registering a case against the owner customs team started further investigations.
It is necessary to mention here that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigations Rubab Sikandar directed all anti smuggling teams to adopt zero tolerance policy towards smuggling, anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt with iron hands.
Sources said that due to comprehensive strategy adopted by Customs Intelligence teams there is decrease is being witnessed in smuggling attempts.
