FAISALABAD: The Field Investigation Unit (FIU) Sargodha of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized non-duty-paid Iranian fresh apples worth Rs2.1million involving duty and taxes of Rs1.1million besides impounding a carrier Hino truck valued at Rs03million during a raid.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Irfan Shouqat received secret information about non-customs-paid consignment traveling from Karachi to Mianwali. He constituted a team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Tahir, Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir, Driver Tajamul Haq, Hawaldar Muhammad Sajjad and Sepoy Khalil Ahmed.
The FIU team intercepted the truck bearing registration No: TKX-607 Lasbela loaded with fresh apples of 780 baskets weighed 8,580kg near Chowk Musa Khail, Mianwali Road Mianwali.
The driver of the loader, identified as Abdullah, a resident of tehsil district Quetta, to produce the legal documents regarding the possession of the item but he failed to do so.
The FIU Sargodha team confiscated the fruit and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for legal process.
