MULTAN: Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) branch has lodged FIR against suspect who is involved in smuggling of foreign-origin auto parts seized by Anti-Smuggling Organization.
Sources told Customs Today that Customs Collectorate detected a network operating in South Punjab. Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization received credible information from their sources that some persons have dumped huge quantity of smuggled auto parts near Multan Road Bahwalpur Bypass.
Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization took action against dumped auto on tipoff that huge consignments of different auto parts are dumped in the private warehouse near Shama Cinema, Multan road Bahawalpur. Smugglers were using this warehouse for supplying auto parts to different cities of South Punjab. Smuggled auto parts were sold out in different markets of the South Punjab.
During the said action, Customs anti-smuggling staff arrested an accused who was identified as Nusrullah, son of Zafrullah. Multan Customs anti-smuggling squad recovered smuggled auto parts of vehicles worth almost Rs7.17 million which involves duty taxes of Rs5.96 million.
The Customs Collectorate obtained search warrant from the magistrate under section 162 of Customs Act of 1969 and the staff of Anti-Smuggling Organization raided the private warehouse where smuggled auto parts were dumped and recovered huge quantity of smuggled auto parts.
Meanwhile, Customs Investigation and Prosecution branch lodged the FIR against accused Nasrullah on smuggling charges. It was also revealed during initial investigation of Anti-Smuggling Organization that he was involved in the smuggling of motor auto parts in the South Punjab. Customs teams lodged FIR no 7/18 against the accused and further investigations are still under way.
