ISLAMABAD: Directorate-General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) team seized huge quantity of Chinese smuggled mobile phones and arrested one person.
Sources told Customs Today that Director-General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Zahid Khokhar received secret information about the smuggling of mobiles. He formed anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Superintendent Abdul Malik. The anti-smuggling squad with the assistance of Motorway police intercepted a Toyota Corolla XLI bearing registration no: LZE 6368 loaded with China origin mobiles.
After interception of vehicle carrying smuggled goods, the I&I staff found 873 China made QMobile, Nokia smartphones including few other brands including 200 pcs L-1 classic Q-mobile, 100 pieces of CE0168 Nokia, 47 8000 pro QMobile, 100 E-100 party QMobile, 150 Hero power 2 QMobiles, 248 Hero power 01 QMobile, 09 K-1 QMobiles and 19 A-27 China origin Kechadpa mini mobiles.
At the time of occurrence one Abid Ali who is a resident of Lahore was driving the vehicle and claimed the ownership of seized mobile phones, but on demand he failed to provide any satisfactory proof therefore the above mentioned China origin mobile phones along with carrier Toyota VTI car were seized under Section 168 of the Customs Act 1969 as well as the owner of the smuggled mobile phones also arrested under Section 171 of customs act. Further investigation is underway, the sources said.
