KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Appraisement-East has taken notice of the ‘lapoos’ (private employees), who are being fully activated and taking part in official affairs at the National Logistic Containers (NLC) Terminal, it is learnt here.
One of the Customs officials on condition of anonymity informed Customs Today that the ‘lapoos’ are being spread in all sections at NLC Terminal and allegedly getting full favour from some officials at NLC Terminal to carry out official work without any restrictions.
The sources further informed this scribe that the Collector-Customs Appraisement (East) Ashadd Jawwad has taken notice of the working of unauthorized persons, commonly known as ‘lapoos’ in the premises of NLC Terminal.
The sources informed that the Collector Appraisement (East) Ashadd Jawwad has received several complaints that the unauthorized work-force (lapoos) are working in the premises of NLC Terminal. However; the Collector Customs Appraisement (East) Ashadd Jawad has taken notice of the said exercise and directed the authorities concerned at NLC Terminal including additional collectors and deputy collectors to take serious action in this regard and submit a detailed report before him.
Responding to a query, the sources further disclosed that the appraisers and examiners deputed at NLC Terminal are hiring their private employees (lapoos) for their official working and taking full advantage of the situation.
Replying to another question, the sources further informed that those lapoos are working at NLC Terminal for last 8 to 10 years and no one would take action in this regard.
The Collector Customs Appraisement (East) Ashadd Jawwad has further asked the authorities concerned to also check the authenticity of the employees in appraising and examination sections at Pakistan International Containers’ Terminal (PICT) in order to ensure that none of the unauthorized person can work for the Customs officials including examiners and appraisers.
