KARACHI: Customs officers in two different raids at Khukhera near Kadani foils bid to smuggle 66 kilograms of hashish worth Rs8.2 million as well as foreign origin tyres worth Rs3 million.
According to the details, vigilance of the RCD highway was stepped up on receipt of credible information relayed to the Collector of Customs, MCC Gwadar Feroz Alam Junejo regarding an attempt by nefarious elements to smuggle a huge cache of narcotics from Afghanistan through Quetta to Karachi and then abroad.
In order to nip the attempt, the collector and Assistant Collector Preventive Kaleem Ullah with strict directive made all out efforts to ensure that the consignment is intercepted and persons involved are apprehended expeditiously.
The team comprised superintendent Preventive, inspector and staff of the mobile squad Khukhera Customs House Gaddani kept strict round the clock vigilance and carried out checking of the vehicles arriving at Khukhera from Quetta.
A vehicle registration No TKZ-718 was intercepted and was rummaged by the Customs officers and staff. During the checking, the staff recovered 66 kilograms of hashish canceled in the secret places of the vehicle. The recovered 66 kg hashish and vehicles worth Rs8.2 million of rupees while two culprits namely Saifullah and Abdul Kabir have been arrested.
In another raid at Khukhera the customs staff deputed at check point during checking foiled an attempt to smuggling of 50 used foreign origin tyres worth Rs0.5 million along with vehicle bearing registration No TKC-320 valuing Rs3 millions. The same were seized and FIR has been lodged against the culprits.
