DIMAPUR: Contraband drugs and other illegal imports impounded by the Customs (Preventive) Division, Dimapur under the Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive) North Eastern Region, Shillong were put to flames at a destruction ceremony carried out at Ahozhe village, Dimapur on March 20.
The cache of impounded illegal imports included 688.2kg narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, 1100 vials of codeine-based cough syrup; cigarettes, cosmetics and food items of foreign origin. The collective value of the destroyed items was estimated at Rs. 38,32,697. As per a press release, the exercise was in pursuance to rrders passed by the District and Session Judge & Special Judge (NDPS), Dimapur, Session Judge Nagaon, Special Judge NDPS, Tinsukia and the Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), NER Shillong. The Additional Commissioner, Central Excise & Service Tax, Guwahati and representatives from the district Judicial Court, village authorities of Ahozhe were also present, the release said.
