HYDERABAD: The Model Customs House Jacobabad has denied the news item regarding “smuggling of contraband under official patronage” published in a section of english press.
In a press release issued by the Customs House Jacobabad clarified that Customs staff at Jacobabad check-post were not involved in any kind of smuggling as per the strict instructions from FBR Member (Customs) and the Chief Collector Enforcement-South. “The Customs officials have been working hard to curb the menace of smuggling; However, some ‘corrupt elements’ in Customs are trying to discourage their efforts by writing so-called letters to higher authorities and news organizations, accusing them of smuggling,” it stated.
It is to be noted that Customs Today in its weekly issue (July 15-21) 2014 published a report regarding ‘smuggling’ under official patronage.
It cited a letter reportedly written by Regional Officer (RO) Jacobabad Muhammad Hafeez Tunio to FBR Member (Customs) Nisar Muhammad Ali Khan and Chief Collector Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem about the smuggling of contrabands under official patronage.
The Customs Collectorate further said that Customs authorities had taken strict actions against corrupt officers.
