KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has issued non-bailable warrant for an absconders named Faizan and Muhammad Imran in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband mobile phones, mobile chargers, auto parts, refrigerators etc worth Rs 272.45 million.
During the hearing, accused Wahid Khan, who is released on bail granted by Sindh High Court (SHC) was present; however, accused Abdul Moiz Majeed was absent who is also released on interim bail. The other suspects were also absent without any prior information; therefore, the court issued warrants against them for September 1, 2016.
The court also adjourned the hearing for confirmation of bail to accused Abdul Moiz Majeed. Investigation Officer Bashir Ahmed Bhutto also attended the hearing.
According to the prosecution, above accused persons were trying to smuggle contraband goods through mis-declaration; however, officials of the customs intercepted the consignments and recovered contraband goods like assorted perfumes 33054 packet valuing at Rs 165,270,000, 6014 mobile phones worth Rs 84,850,000, refrigerators valuing at Rs 561,000, 33 cartons of auto parts worth Rs 2,303,230, 11,000 mobile phone chargers worth Rs 2,200,000, 16032 pieces of body sprays worth Rs 2,040,800 and etc. The total value is Rs 272,456,950.
After all formalities, case was registered against the accused persons as under Section 32, 32A, TP121 and Section 178 ibid and clause (8) (89), 14, 14A, (A) and 63 of Section 156 (1) ibid read with section 3 (1) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1950 further read with Preventive of Smuggling Act, 1977.
