KARACHI: Custom Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent a suspect, Shafi Ullah, to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand. He was booked in a case of evasion of duty and taxes of Rs 10,25, 112.
During the hearing, Investigation Officer S. Azhar Zaidi informed the court that investigations revealed that accused, in connivance with other compliance, mid-declared their goods. However, officials of the Customs Department found mis-declaration and seized the goods. He further informed the court that investigations has been completed, therefore, the court may send him to jail on judicial remand.
After his arguments, the court sent him to Central Jail Karachi and directed the jail superintendent to produce him before the court on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered against the above mentioned accused persons in violation of section 2 (s) (ii) 16, 32 (1) & (2), 32A, 81 and 157 of the Customs Act 1969, punishable under clauses (8) (9) (14) (14A) of section 156 (1) and section 156 (2) of the Customs Act 1969 read with section 3, 6, 7A, 33, 34 of the sales tax, 1990 further read with section 148 of the Income Tax ordinance, 2001.
