KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Syed Muhammad Ismail son of Syed Abdul Kabeer and Syed Naseeb Ullah son of Syed Abdul Kabeer Shah to Pakistan Coast Guard on physical remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle 26729 kilogram cloth different type (China).
On August 04, 2018, Investigation Officer Muhammad Mehmood, Naib Subedar produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on a credible information, staff of the Pakistan Coast Guard intercepted a Hino truck hearing registration number SPN-146 and during the search, recovered 26729 kilogram cloth different type (China).
He submitted that at the spot, officials asked them to produce lawful documents of above mentioned goods, however they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after formalities, officials seized the goods and arrested them.
He argued that during the investigation, it was revealed that said cloth were being smuggled from Quetta to Karachi for its disposal in local markets, he said that prosecution needs further investigation from them, therefore, court may send them back to lock up on physical remand, after the hearing, court sent them on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) and 16, 156 (1) (8) (9) (89) and 157 of Customs Act, 1969.
