KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent two suspects, Muhammad Rafiq Khan and Muhammad Tahir, to Central Jail Karachi. Both were booked in a case of smuggled/ non-duty paid high speed diesel case.
During the hearing, investigation officer produced the suspects before the court and informed that the customs department intercepted an oil tanker loaded with 15,000 litter diesel of Iranian origin.
The investigation officer further informed the court that the prosecution has completed investigation from the suspects and the case was proven against them. Therefore, court may send them to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand.
After his arguments, the court sent them to jail and directed the investigation officer to submit a charge sheet against them on the next date of hearing. The court also directed jail authorities to produce the suspects on the next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered against suspects for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) & 178 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub-section (1) read with sub-section (2) of the section 156 of the Customs Act, 1969.
