KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Ghulam Wali, Muhammad Hanif and Raz Muhammad to Central Jail on judicial remand, who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle re-meltable iron scrap worth Rs 6,028,880.
On July 17, 2019, investigation officer of Customs Preventive produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and information that on credible information, customs team intercepted three Hino trucks bearing registration numbers TKU-091, TKB-567 and TKH-158 and recovered 35020 kilograms, 28800 kilograms and 28932 kilograms respectively.
He argued that during checking the suspect drivers have not produced any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, suspects were arrested and goods along with vehicles also were seized by the customs officials. He said that prosecution needs further investigation from them, therefore, court may send back on physical remand, after the hearing, court sent him to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) (15) (16) of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
