LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent a culprit to jail for one year and imposed a penalty of Rs 2 million in a case of gold smuggling from Britain to Lahore.
According to the details, accused Shoaib Muneer was arrested by the customs authorities at Lahore airport while they found huge quantity of gold in his luggage. Worth of the recovered gold was Rs16 million. He got bail from the court and arrested again after rejection of bail plea by the higher court. Accused Shoaib Muneer is a main culprit in smuggling of huge quantity of gold.
On the other hand number of cases were scheduled for hearing before the Customs Court that were rescheduled for new dates due to strike after killing of a lawyer number of cases were disturbed in the Court of Customs Taxation and Anti smuggling. Cases of Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan and Lahore were scheduled for hearing on Thursday. Cases of tax evasion, smuggling and some other cases were also scheduled on Friday they were adjourned for new dates.
