KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer to arrest the financiers, abettors and submit charge sheet against those who are involved in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband betel nuts and others goods.
On Friday, investigation officer of Customs Collectorate Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization produced another First Information Report (FIR) before the court and submitted that officials of Pakistan Rangers intercepted five Suzuki pick-ups near loaded with betel nuts and other goods at Maripure Road Karachi and informed the customs officials, therefore, customs officials reached there and search the pick-ups.
Investigation officer further informed that during the search of 5 pick-ups customs officials found 12 kg betel nuts, 72,6750 pouches Rajni Brand Indian origin Gutkha.
He said that after the formalities, customs authorities seized the above mentioned goods along with 5 pick-ups. He further submitted that show cause notices have been issued and display on customs office against owners of vehicles as well as owners of said goods, accordingly, efforts are in progress to arrest the absconding accused persons and their associates.
After the hearing court taken FIR into court record and directed investigation officer to arrest the culprits and submit charge sheet till next date of hearing.
Case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause 8 & 89 of section 156 (1) ibid read with section (i) of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950 and others related laws complainant by Muhammad Shafiq Senior Preventive Officer Customs House Karachi.
