KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Thursday directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against absconder suspect namely Adnan, son of Abdul Shakoor, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid Suzuki Jimmy/Sierra jeep registration number BG-0106.
During the hearing, investigation officer of Customs Collectorate of Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization NMB, Wharf, Karachi submitted First Information Report (FIR) before the court and argued that on a credible information, a team of customs department reached at vicinity of Clifton area, Karachi and found that the above mentioned vehicle was moving on road at Boat Basin, the vehicle was stopped and the occupant/driver later on identified as Adnan was asked to produce the documents regarding the import/procurement/purchase of the said vehicle.
According to the investigation officer, driver did not produce any lawful documents, therefore, as there existed information. About smuggled/non-duty paid vehicle, the said vehicle was taken into custody, driver Adnan informed the customs department that he is working as driver on the vehicle and the owner of the vehicle in one namely Faisal and he would produce required documents within three days; however, he did not any have lawful documents.
He argued that in the light of the above facts, it has been established that the vehicle is plying on road with tampered chassis/frame, meaning thereby the present vehicle was brought into country other than authorized route without payment of duty and taxes and being plied after tempering its chassis/frame.
He further informed the court that prosecution registered first information report for violation of 2 (s), 156 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969, punishable under clauses (8) and (89) of section 156 (1) ibid.
