KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer of Collectorate of Appraisement East to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against Imran Haroon son of Haroon, owner of M/s Al-Aswed Associates, Qaiser Abbas clearing agent of M/s Ali Co, Muhammad Idress clearing forwarding agent, Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Ahsan and others involved in a case of attempting to clear restricted goods through mis-declaration.
On 18 September 2019, investigation officer submitted first information report (FIR) against above-mentioned suspects and informed the court that M/s Al Aswed Associates imported consignments containing “shippers load, count & seal (300 bales) Cy/Cy used cloth” weighing 20,000 kilograms, manifested to have been shipped from Ningbo, China.
He further submitted that the importers in active connivance with their clearing agents and other accomplices mis-declared the description, quantity, origin and classification of the imported goods by submitting false, fake and fabricated information to evade legitimate government revenue.
The examination of the subject consignments found the goods to be polyester plane pile fabric in rolls and velvet prayer mats instead of declared used clothing. Total customs value of the consignment ascertained as $108,392 or Rs17,234,328 and total duties and taxes worked out as Rs1,060,669,482.
