MULTAN: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling imposed a penalty of Rs100,000 each on eight accused persons who are involved in smuggling.
According to the details, anti-smuggling squad intercepted three trucks displaying registration number: TKU 765, TKV 469 and TKZ 642 when they were loaded with different non-customs paid goods including white cumin seed, coriander seed, almonds without shell, dried plums, Rani juices with fruit pieces, plastic granules, natural dried herb, figs, multi-vitamin syrup and others.
Customs teams arrested eight accused Ishaq son of Assal Din, Ahktar Muhammad son of Haji Bismillah Khan, Imran Khan son of Nambullah Khan, Alam Sher Khan son of Mir Ahmad, Ikramullah Khan son of Ayyaz, Abdul Rauf son of Adam Khan, Fazeel Ameen son of Abdul Karim and Mehmood son of Raziq on charges of smuggling various goods under the garb of Afghan Transit trade during their action. All accused are residents of Wana FATA region.
Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) branch lodged criminal case for smuggling of goods amounting almost Rs23.7 million on charge of smuggling.
Seized goods were confiscated by Customs Adjudication by declaring unlawful after trial of said seizure case. Customs Investigation and Prosecution branch pursued the case no.5/18 in the Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling.
Said accused failed to prove their innocence in the proceedings of said case and so Rs 100,000 penalty was imposed on each of them in final verdict for their facilitation of delivering smuggled goods. All accused were already on bail.
