KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted interim bail to a suspect, Shiraz Kaka son of Allah Dino Kaka, who was booked in a case of smuggled/ non duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser (Prado) jeep bearing registration number BF-8507.
During the hearing, the suspect appeared before the court along with his counsel and filed an application for pre-arrest bail. His counsel informed the court that a single bench of the Sindh High Court had granted him protective bail against surety of Rs 50, 000 for seven days and the accused was directed to surrender before the trial court. Therefore, he has come to surrender himself before this court and the court may grant him pre-arrest bail.
After his argument, the court granted the suspect interim bail against surety bonds of Rs 200,000. The court issued notice to the special public prosecutor for Customs Department and called police paper. The court also directed the accused to join investigation when and appear before this court on the next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, on a credible information, a team of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Toyota Land Cruiser (Prado) jeep bearing registration no FB-8507 recovered from near Hyper Star, Clifton Karachi and FIR NO ASO-171-2016 (HQ) was registered against the Shiraz Kaka and others in violation of under section 2 (s) and 178 of Customs Act 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (89) of the section 156 (i) ibid.
