KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi granted interim pre-arrest bail to accused Muhammad Adnan Khan son of Muhammad Akbar, owner of M/s Mega Enterprises. The suspect was booked in a duty and tax evasion case.
During the hearing, counsel for the accused appeared before the court and filed an application for pre-arrest bail. He argued that his client is innocent and falsely implicated in this case and he is ready to face trial, therefore, court may grant him bail. After the arguments, the court granted him bail and observed in its order that, “Without touching the merits of the case, ad-interim pre-arrest bail is granted to accuse Muhammad Adnan Khan son of Muhammad Akbar subject to surety in the sum of Rs 200, 000 with prize bond in the like amount to the satisfaction of this court”.
The court also directed the accused/ applicant to join investigation if and when required by investigation officer of the case and attend the court for January 21, 2017 for confirmation of bail application. The Customs Court also issued notice to the special prosecutor for Customs Department and call police papers for the next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, above named accused person with in connivance of others have jointly and willfully committed the offence of evasion of government legitimate duty/ taxes for their personal benefits, therefore, case was registered against them in violation of section 32 (1) (2) 32A, 79 & 80 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 14, 14A & 43 of the section 156 I (ibid).
