KARACHI: The Customs Court granted interim bail to suspect namely Muhammad Akbar son of Ghulam Muhammad, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 21,640 liters High Speed Diesel (HSD).
On Thursday, counsel for the above-mentioned suspect submitted bail petition and argued that his client is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case and he is ready to face trail, therefore, court may grant him bail. After the hearing, court granted bail against the surety of Rs1,00,000.
On last date of hearing, investigation officer informed the court that a information was received to the effect that a Hino dumper truck bearing registration no TKS-339 containing smuggled diesel concealed in a hidden tank under the load of gravel (crushed stones) for delivery at Hyderabad and was parked near toll plaza.
He further submitted that on information, a team of customs department immediately rushed toward the spot and found that Hino dumper truck was parked alongside the road. During the search, they found concealed diesel in the fabricated extra tank, therefore, the same was taken into possession in presence of musheers and shifted to customs warehouse-Kemari, Karachi.
He argued that real ownership of the seized diesel is under probe, as the confirmation of the ownership of diesel is subject of the owner of the said dumper truck. During the investigation, it is established that above mentioned suspect has committed an offence in collusion with the others under section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157(2) and 178 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8 & 89 of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 3 (i) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
