Customs Court grants bail to suspect in sale of illegal mobile phones, tablets

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted interim pre-arrest bail to a suspect namely Saad Masud against surety bonds of Rs 200,000. The suspect was booked in a case of import/ sale of illegal/ non-approved mobile handsets and tablets in the name and style of Mobile Mania.

During the hearing, counsel for the suspect appeared and filed an application for bail. He argued that his client was innocent and was falsely implicated in this case, who was ready to face trail, however, he had apprehension of arrest, therefore, the court might grant him bail till the final judgment the case.

After the hearing, court granted him bail and issued notices to the customs department and special prosecutor for customs, directing them to file their para-wise comments on the next date of hearing. The court also directed the suspect to appear before the court on the next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, raid was conducted by duty director Federal Investigation Agency Cyber Crime Circle Karachi and recovered illegal/ non-type approved mobile handsets and tablets from suspect’s possession, investigation officer informed the court that suspect was involved in import/ sale of illegal/ non-type approved mobile handsets and tablets in the name of style of Mobile Mania at shop no 2 California Plaza Karachi.

Case was registered for violation of under section 156 (1) (8) (89) read with section 32 of Customs Act and section 109/34 PPC FIA, Cyber Crime Circle (NR3C) Karachi.
