KARACHI: The Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi awarded 15 days imprisonment to suspect namely Muhammad Zamreen son of Mehmood Shah on plead guilty, who is owner of oil tanker bearing registration number JP-9950, and booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 25,000 liters Iranian HSD Oil.
During the hearing, the above mentioned suspect appeared before the court along with his counsel who moved petition for plead guilty and left himself on the mercy of court, after the hearing court framed charge against him that “on December 14, 2017 convicted accused Arif and Muhammad Anwar were intercepted by the SHO Thatta and subsequently handed over your custody to the staff of Anti-Smuggling Organization Customs Collectorate Hyderabad at Police Station Keenjhar Lake, Thatta along with oil tanker bearing registration number JP-9950 loaded with 25,000 liters foreign origin HSD for its illegal disposal in open market. You accused Muhammad Zamreen carrying/ transportation in connivance with convicted without any lawful documentation, therefore, you have committed an offence punishable under section 156 (1) (8) (89) of the Customs Act, 1969. And I hereby direct you accused to be tried by this court on the aforesaid charge”.
Framing charge, suspect plead guilty and left himself on the mercy of the court, after plead guilty, court awarded him imprisonment as undergone period and fine to Rs1,00,000 and directed jail authorities to release him if he does not require in any other case.
Case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act 1969 punishable under clauses 8 & 89 of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 3 (1) of Import and Export Control Act, 1950.
