KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has awarded six days imprisonment (already undergone period) and imposed a fine of Rs 80,000 on Raj Malook, who was arrested while attempting to smuggle 15,000 liter high speed diesel.
During the hearing, the investigation officer produced the suspect before the court. The suspect moved an application and pleaded guilty, leaving himself on the mercy of the court.
After the hearing, the court convicted him to already undergone period and fine him Rs 80,000. If he fails to pay the fine, he will undergo further two month simple imprisonment at Central Jail Karachi.
According to the prosecution, a team of the customs department intercepted a Nissan High Wall Dumper truck bearing registration number TAG-778 on Main Road Banaras, Karachi, on July 26, 2017 and recovered 15,000 liter high speed diesel. During the search, driver was asked to produce legal documents, however, he remained failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, oil and truck were seized.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) & 178 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub-section (1) read with sub-section (2) of the section 156 of the Customs Act 1969.
