KARACHI: The Customs Court approves physical remand of suspects Ghulam Wali, Muhammad Hanif and Raz Muhammad who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle re-meltable iron scrap worth of Rs60,28,880.
On July 10, 2019, investigation officer of Customs Preventive produced the abovementioned suspects before the court and informed that on credible information, customs team intercepted three Hino truck bearing registration numbers TKU-091, TKB-567 and TKH-158 and recovered 35020 kgs, 28800 kgs and 28932 kgs respectively.
He argued that during the suspects drivers have not produced any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, suspects were arrested and goods along with vehicles also were seized by the customs officials, he submits that prosecution needs further investigation from them for arrest of owners of goods and others culprits, therefore, court may send them back on physical remand.
After the hearing, court granted their physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) (15) (16) of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
