KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Lakhmeer Khan son of Nihal Khan to customs department on physical remand, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid contraband goods.
On Feb 21, 2019, investigation officer produced the above-mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs team intercepted a 10-wheeler Hino truck bearing registration no: TKB-540 having chassis number FF173-14675 engine capacity 140 HP and model 1985 and during the search, recovered Indian origin Gutka and other contraband goods which were smuggled from Balochistan to Karachi.
He argued that during the investigation, it is established that the said smuggled goods were seized along the said Hino truck used in transportation in the garb of stone crush loaded on the said truck issued by M/s Sitara Al-Usman Goods Forwarding Agency, Quetta in violation of provisions of section 2 (s) 16 of the customs act 1969 clause (B) of SRO 499(1)/2009 and Section 3 (1) of the Import & Export (Control) Act, 1969.
He further submitted that prosecution needs further investigation from the said suspect for arrest of other culprits, therefore, court may send him back to customs department.
After the hearing, court sent the suspect on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
Case was registered by Syed Shafiq Ali, Intelligence officer of customs preventive and names of Hanif Soomro, Rao Sattar Ahmed, Sikander Ali Mallah, Noushad Khan, Ghayas Ahmed, Aleemuddin and Abdul Saeed are mentioned in first information report as witnesses.
