KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent a suspect, Mujahid Ahmed Khan son of Muhammad Sikandar Khan, to the Customs Department on physical remand till March 3, 2017. The suspect had arrived at Karachi airport from Sharjah and was booked for attempting to smuggle contraband mobile phones.
During the hearing, Investigation Officer Noor Nabi Abbasi produced the suspect before the court and submitted that the staff of the Anti-Smuggling Organization recovered non-customs paid mobile phones from him at night between February 22 and 23, 2017 when he arrived from Sharjah.
The mobile phones include Samsung 120 numbers, LG brand 45 numbers, Vega brand 3 numbers, Sol brand 3 numbers, China (without brand name) 3 numbers and one shoulder bag of black color as container from his possession, worth Rs 180,96,000.
He further informed the court that said accused had not produced legal documents of the said mobile phones, therefore, after the necessary procedure staff of the custom department seized said smuggled mobile phones and arrested him.
He said that a case was registered against accused in violation of section 2 (s) and 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) of section 156 (1) ibid read with baggage rules notified vide SRO-666 (1)/2006 dated 28/06/2006 & section 3 (iii) of Import & Export (Control) Act. 1950.
After his arguments, court sent accused on physical remand and directed the investigation officer to produce the said accused on next date of hearing along with progress report.
