KARACHI: The Customs Court approved interim charge sheet against suspects namely Karim Jan son of Wahid Bukhsh and Abdul Hakeem son of Nawab Khan, who was arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle 3200 mobile phones worth Rs5,002,000.
On June 1, 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive submitted interim charge sheet against them and informed the court that on a credible information, customs team intercepted a Suzuki Hi-Roof van bearing registration no CV-6845 and during the search found 1249 Nokia 3310, 1298 2.1-Tell, 339 S Q-up and 112 X-Inova worth Rs4,497,000.
He further submitted that 202 assorted used touch mobile phones worth Rs5,002,000 were recovered from the said vehicle and after recovering suspects were asked to produce lawful documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, they were arrested and goods were also seized.
He said that during the investigation, it is established that said accused persons have thus committed an offence with the others under Section 2 (s) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clause (89) of Section 156 (i) ibid, as the investigation of that case is underway, it is prayed that further time may kindly be granted under section 344 CRPC to complete the investigation.
After the hearing, court approved interim charge sheet and fixed the case for regular hearing.
Case was registered for violation of under Section 2(s) 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clause (89) of Section 156 (i) ibid read with Section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with Section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
