KARACHI: The Customs Court granted bail to suspects namely Rooh Ullah son of Muhammad Qasim and Farhan Afzal son of Muhammad Afzal, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 600 kilograms betel nuts.
On March 21, 2019, counsel for the accused filed bail petition and argued that their clients are innocents and falsely implicated in this court and are ready to face trail and submit surety before the court, therefore, court may grant them bail till final verdict in this case.
After the hearing, court granted bail to suspects against surety of Rs100,000 and directed suspects to appear before the court on next date of hearing.
Earlier, investigation officer submitted interim charge sheet against suspects before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs team intercepted one Toyota Surf jeep bearing registration no: BD-0732 and recovered 600 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs16,6,200.
He further informed the court that during the search, customs team asked suspects to produce lawful documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, goods along with vehicle were seized and suspects were also taken into custody of customs department.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) 156 (2) 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clause 8 & 89 of Section 156 (1) ibid read with Section 3 (1) of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
