KARACHI: The Customs Court granted after arrest bail to suspects namely Amanullah son of Faiz Ullah and Saifullah son of Faizal Kareem, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 6360 kgs betel nuts.
On June 25, 2019, court granted their bail directing them to appear before the court on next date of hearing without fail or otherwise bail can be suspended.
During the hearing, counsel for the applicant argued that his clients are innocent and have been falsely booked in this case, therefore, court may grant their bail till final judgment in this case.
Earlier, investigation officer of anti-smuggling organization NMB Wharf, Karachi had produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs team intercepted a New Prince Coach (EURO-3) bearing registration no BSB-842 and recovered 6360 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs3,180,000.
He further submitted that after their failure to produce any lawful documents, customs officials seized goods and suspects were also taken into customs custody.
According to the prosecution, case was registered at the office of Anti-Smuggling Organization HQ NMB Wharf, Karachi for violation of section 2(s) 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
