KARACHI: The Customs Court announced verdict and awarded imprisonment and fine to suspects namely Ghulam Wali, Muhammad Hanif and Raz Muhammad, who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle re-meltable iron scrap worth Rs60, 28,880.
On July 31, 2019, above mentioned suspects appeared before the court along with their counsel and moved applications for plead guilty and left themselves on the mercy of the court.
After considering of plead guilty application, court passed verdict and awarded imprisonment which already undergone period and fine Rs. 100,000 each against all of them, court observes that if fine amount is not paid, the accused persons will suffer further 6 months in Central Jail Karachi.
According to the prosecution, on a credible information, customs team intercepted three Hino Truck bearing registration numbers TKU-091, TKB-567 and TKH-158 and recovered 35020 kilograms, 28800 kilograms and 28932 kilograms respectively and during the search, suspects drivers have not produced any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, suspects were arrested and goods along with vehicles also were seized by the customs officials.
Case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) (15) (16) of the customs act 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
