KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has accepted the interim challan against Faisal Aftab, proprietor of M/s Faisal Trading, who was arrested in a duty and tax evasion case of Rs 5,246,249.
During the hearing, the investigation officer submitted the interim challan and informed the court that during the investigation, prosecution has sufficient evidence against against the suspect. He said that the accused had mis-declared the goods of baby diapers worth Rs 4,485,663 and baby diapers assorted worth Rs 1,340,085. Therefore, the suspect evaded duty and taxes of Rs 5,246,249.
According to the interim challan Appraising Officer Zafar Iqbal of Appraisement West, Maqsood Ahmed, Ismail, Nadeem Ahmed Khan and Javed Khalid’s names were mentioned as witnesses of the case.
Customs Court accepted the interim challan and adjourned the hearing, it needs to be mentioned here that accused Faisal Aftab is already on bail.
Case was registered by Appraising Officer Javed Khalid of Customs House Karachi in violation of section 32 (1), 79, 155D and 192 of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under clauses (9) (14) (866) & 90 of section 156 (I) ibid read with rule 400 & 402 (chapter XIII) of the customs rules 2001 notified vide SRO 450 (1)/2001 dated June 18, 2001 further read with Section 1 of Section 3 of the Import & Export Control Act, 1950 and Section 148 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2000.
