KARACHI: Assistant Collector of Model Customs Collectorate Preventive, Wasif Malik has revealed the identity of the arrested accused, arrested by the customs at Jinnah International Airport-JIAP the other day in their alleged involvement in smuggling of 2.99 kilogram of assorted gold jewellery.
Addressing a press conference at Air Freight Unit (AFU), Wasif Malik said that the customs staff on Wednesday intercepted two Pakistani passengers namely Zeeshan Aslam and his wife Aisha Aslam at arrival hall of JIAP when they arrived from Dubai by EK-604 flight.
Assistant Collector Wasif Malik said that both the passengers were diverted to scanning machine along with their baggage and then towards examination counter for physical examination of the baggage.
At counter, they were offered an opportunity of fair declaration of the contents of their baggage but they denied to having any suspicious items.
Wasif further said that the baggage examination led to recovery of six LG mobile phones kept in lady bag, since there existed a strong suspicion, therefore, personal search of the lady passenger was conducted which led to the recovery of 2.99 kg of assorted gold jewellery which was duly concealed undergarments.
Assistant collector further informed the media that the goods were recovered and seized after completion of all legal formalities, adding that the value of confiscated assorted gold jewellery was amounting to Rs 1.9 million.
He further said that both the accused were arrested and a case registered against them in the Court of Special Judge (Customs and Taxation), Karachi for violation of section 2(s), 16 and 178 of the Customs Act, 1969, while further investigation into the case is underway.
