LAHORE: Customs Collectorate of Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized large quantity of smuggled air conditioners in another enforcement activity.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Faiz Ahmad received credible information regarding movement of smuggled goods. The additional collector advised Deputy Collector ASO Muhammad Moazzam Raza, to tighten the vigilance.
The Customs Staff of ASO Intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration no. LXK 4554 loaded with foreign origin 17-numbers indoor units & 11 number outdoor units of air conditioners.
During investigations it came on record that another huge quantity of similar foreign origin air conditioners have been stored in a godown of M/s Tanveer and Company situated at Mohallah Salamat Pura near Orange Train Station Daroghawala and Momin Pura, Lahore.
In pursuance of the above information warrant u/s 162 of the Customs Act,1969 were obtained from the Judicial Magistrate, Lahore, the staff raided on the godown.
On further query, the godown keeper stated that the air conditioners lying in the godown belongs to M/S. Malik & Co, Karachi and M/S. Moon Light, Karachi.
On search conducted in the presence of above said godown keepers and other witnesses, 1481-number indoor units and 1283 outdoor units of split inverter air conditioners of assorted models and capacity were found available there. The approximately value of the goods is Rs120 million.
Case has been registered against the owner of the goods Majeed Khan son of Nizam Din & others. Further investigations are under way. The raiding staff included Agha Qadeer Haider, Superintendent, Shahid Khan, Nasir Saeed, Shahid Bhatti, Abdul Rehman Butt, Sajjad Bukhari, Anjum Sheraz, Maratab Mushtaq, and Azam Wattoo inspectors.
