LAHORE: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Model Customs Collectorate Preventive Lahore on Wednesday confiscated 90 illegal latest model LED TVs.
Sources said that on a tip-off Collector Preventive Zulfiqar Younas constituted a team under the supervision of Additional Collector Nayyer Shafiq and Assistant Collector Muhammad Asim Awan.
The team also included Inspectors Irfan Mumtaz and Aslam Iqbal and Sepoys Ghulam Dastgir, Turab Hussain, Muhammad Yasin and others who intercepted a vehicle Ford bearing registration No: 1210 (NWFP) near Faizpur Interchange of M-2 at around 1.00 am.
During the checking, ASO team recovered foreign origin smuggled LED TVs of latest models concealed in vegetable crates. The total number of seized LED TVs is 82 that include 65 inches, 70 inches, 42 inches and 32 inches LED TVs of Sony Bravia and Samsung brands. The value of the seized goods is estimated to be Rs4 million.
Two individuals namely Shina son of Usman Jan, a resident of Shaheen Muslim Town Peshawar, and Zahid Hussain son of Taj Muhammad, a resident of village Lala , district Peshawar, have been arrested for further investigation.
According to a preliminary investigation, the recovered goods which were supplied from Peshawar to electronics markets in Lahore.
Earlier in October in a similar action, the ASO Lahore had seized 330 foreign origin smuggled mobile-phones concealed in the vegetable crates.
