ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti Smuggling Organization foiled an attempt of smuggling and confiscated smuggled items worth Rs2.8 million and impounded the offending vehicle as well.
According to details, the Anti Smuggling Organization received credible information through Collector office about transportation of smuggled goods from Peshawar to Islamabad through a public transport vehicle. Superintendent ASO Shahid Jan immediately constituted a team to counter the smuggling attempt.
The ASO squad started searching vehicles at GT Road, Motorway Chowk. While searching the ASO team intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration No: LES-15-687. The ASO team recovered a huge quantity of non-duty paid goods form the vehicle.
The ASO team asked the possessor, who was identified as Shah Khalid, to show the legal documents regarding possession and transportation of the loaded goods. But he remained failed to provide the required documents.
After his failure, the ASO team confiscated the non-duty paid goods as well as impounded the offending vehicle worth Rs 1.5 million and registered a case of smuggling against the accused.
The sources told that the seized items includes 1000 kilogram ball bearing, 350 sleeves of Pine cigarettes, 40 kilogram clutch plates (TYC-517-6F07), 15 kilogram break shoe and 20 kilogram shock absorber. The seized items are worth Rs1.36 million.
