ISLAMABAD: Due to stealing of seized goods in customs-bonded warehouses, state warehouses and secured areas of customs department, the department has asked Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for special audit of these warehouses.
Official sources told Customs Today that customs department has sent a report to FBR in which it is stated that a huge quantity of seized goods are present in state warehouses, customs-bonded warehouses and secured areas in the port and airport since log, while it is observed that some seized goods are stolen and some are also becoming scrap causing huge loss to national kitty.
The customs department in its report also said that these good are becoming a waste; however, the serious matter is stealing of seized goods which are for sure with involvement of Customs staff.
Sources added that customs department has asked FBR to conduct special audit of state warehouses, customs-bonded warehouses and secured areas in order to separate the goods condition wise which will further be helpful for auction and revenue collection. Sources further said that in the audit, it will also unearth that who is involved in stealing of these seized goods. The board is reviewing the matter and will soon decide accordingly, sources added.
