ISLAMABAD: Customs Appellate Tribunal Chairman Justice (r) Manzoor Hussain on Monday adjourned the hearing of six customs cases owing to protest announced by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).
A single bench comprising of Chairman Justice (r) Manzoor Hussain which was supposed to hear customs cases which were pending with the tribunal for months. However, the chairman had to adjourn the hearing as lawyers did not appear before the bench. As result of this, chairman of tribunal adjourned hearing of all listed cases till September 20. The bench had to hear the cases filed by M/s Kohinoor Chemical, Muhammad Younas, M/s SMI Traders and Mirza Muhammad Majid. These appellant had filed cases against collectorate of Customs, Islamabad and Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation, Islamabad.
Out of the six, two cases were field by field offices of Federal Board of Revenue; one by Customs Collectorate and other one by DGI&I.
Customs Intelligence had filed case against Chiniot Enterprises while DGI&I had filed cases against Diplomatic Duty Free Private Limited.
As per directions of the chairman, old cases were being listed for hearing on priority basis. However some important cases filed recently were also included in the list.
