KARACHI: The Collectorate Customs Adjudication-II has issued a show-cause notice on Friday to M/s Bina Garments International in connection with the tax evasion of Rs6.78million in addition to an Additional Sales Tax and an Income Tax of Rs189547 by misusing the SRO 1125(me) /2011.
Source said the M/s Bina Garments International imported various types of fabric printed machines on November 18, 2017 worth Rs6.78million through Goods Declarations KUSJ-24247-224786,violated Section 6,4,7,9A,(4b),48,47 and 92 of the Sales Tax Act-1990, further read with the Section 128 of the Income Tax Ordinance-2001, punishable under clauses (23) of Section 156(7) of the Customs Act-1969 read with Section 47 and 79 of the Sales Tax Act-1990.
Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-Customs Karachi in its contravention report stated that the said importer was misusing SRO 1125 (I)/2011 by clearing imported different kinds of fabric printed machines whereas there was no manufacturing on the notified business addresses so they caused the national exchequer a big loss.
Non-existence of the unit was an ample proof to establish beyond any doubt that the importer’s previous clearance as manufacturer under SRO 1125(I)/2011 and availing of exemption of taxes to the extent of 8 percent as AST and 3 percent as Income Tax were quite illegal and unlawful.
