Cruise captain is charged over polluted French port

The captain of a P&O cruise ship goes on trial in Marseilles today on charges of polluting the port in the first case of its type on the French Mediterranean.

The master of the Azura, who has not been named, is accused of using low-grade fuel oil while in Marseilles in March that broke the legal limit on sulphur emissions. He faces up to a year in prison and a €200,000 fine if convicted.
