KARACHI: Collector Customs Appraisement East Ashad Jawad has taken strict action against Examining Officer Chaudhary Asghar and removed him from Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) on the charges of corruption.
Sources informed Customs Today that Collector Jawad received reports about misconduct and corruption at PICT and took immediate action.
According to sources, a racket comprising on Examining Officer Chaudhry Asghar and others was active at PICT and was facilitating tax evaders in the shape of mis-declaration and under-invoicing.
The racket has been posted here from 2005 to till now at the same place at PICT without any interference and transfer and now reports were surfacing that the importers of scrap preferred to clear their consignments from PICT rather than any other terminal.
Source further informed that six months ago, two FIRs were lodged by Customs Appraisement East in which various companies were nominated for removing imported stuff from containers and getting cleared banned Indian fabrics fraudulently.
The same racket were involved in that scam supported by some of terminal staff as in the investigation it was revealed that stuff from over 90 containers were removed and changed.
