MADRID: Vodafone has added subscribers in every telecoms business in Spain thanks to convergence, and has seen a 4.1% revenue increase in Q4 2016.
During the final three months of 2016, the British telco added 78,000 pay-TV subs, reaching 1.28 million households and consolidating as the market’s second largest player after Telefónica’s Movistar+. According to the company, subscriber numbers have been driven by a growing content offering, which includes an exclusive distribution agreement with HBO España signed in November.
Vodafone has also seen important growth in fibre accesses, adding 115,000 fibre subscriptions in Q4 2016, and ADSL (up 93,000). In addition, the telco added 97,000 mobile clients, reaching 14.5 million active lines, half of which are 4G.
Such growth has driven revenues to increase by 4.1% in the quarter, during which Vodafone invoiced €1.26 billion.
The telco foresees even greater opportunities in the fibre and IPTV segments in the near future, following the recent agreement with Huawei for a network update to the DOCSIS 3.1 specification which will allow up to 1Gbps symmetric speeds.
“The convergent proposal is moving forward thanks to the strong bet on deploying high-speed broadband and an innovative pricing plan,” said the company in a statement. “Currently, 85.4% of our broadband customers have a convergent solution.”
