LAHORE: Maria Rubina G. Markopoulou, the President of Greek-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has said that the communication gap between business communities of the two countries is the biggest hurdle in promotion of bilateral trade.
Signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry to enhance mutual trade, she said that exchange of trade delegations and dissemination of trade and investment-related information can help boost two-way trade.
Markopoulou said that communication gap must be bridged as it is one of the biggest reasons of low trade between the two countries. The two sides agreed to share business information to develop sustainable business cooperation between their respective members. LCCI and Greek-Pakistan CCI will arrange business to business meetings between delegations of their organisations in order to improve trade as well as explore opportunities of mutual collaboration.
Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) Senior Vice President Khawaja Khawar Rashid and VP Zeshan Khalil and others were also present on the occasion.
Senior Vice President Khawaja Khawer Rasheed interacting with the President Greek-Pakistan CCI said that in 2016, the worth of Pakistan’s exports to Greece was $62 million against the imports amounting to $8 million. Greece comes at 12th place among the top exporting countries and at 22nd position among the top importing countries for Pakistan in the European Union. He said that to create a conducive atmosphere, private sector of the two countries must identify the areas that may create opportunities for greater trade. We need to adopt modern and progressive marketing techniques with result-oriented follow-ups.
The LCCI President said that exchange of trade delegations can also help enhance the process of trade & investment related information and respective chambers of Commerce can play the vital role in this connection. He said that relation building between our institutions can greatly contribute in exploiting the trade & investment potential between two countries.
