WASHINGTON: Colorado companies exported their goods and services to more than 200 countries in 2015, but as the year closed they saw a 4.3 percent decrease in overall exports. That’s according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, which says the state and country sent fewer goods and services to other countries in 2015 than in the previous year.
“There were many head winds facing Colorado exporters in 2015, but a strong U.S. dollar played the largest role in holding down the state’s export growth,” said Paul Bergman, director of Commercial Service Denver, which is the trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. “For example, the Canadian dollar lost 15 percent of its value when compared to the U.S. dollar last year, which would make our products more expensive to a Canadian customer.”
