KARACHI: The Customs Preventive has collected Rs 149,296.40 million duties and taxes under various heads during the fiscal year 2015-16.
Surces told Customs Today that the Preventive collectorate has collected Rs 149,296.40 million, out of which Rs 32,734.35 million as customs duties, Rs 98,863.52 million as sales tax, Rs 12,639.31 million as income tax and Rs 5,059.21 million as federal excise duty (FED).
In June 2016, the Customs Preventive collected Rs 5,141.31 million under the head of customs duty, Rs 9,432.21 million as sales tax, Rs 1,106.24 million as income tax and Rs 287.98 million as FED.
According to sources, Customs Preventive under the supervision of Collector SM Tariq Huda made remarkable performance by foiling massive smuggling bids.
The MCC Preventive authorities recovered around 29 kilograms of heroin powder from PIA aircrafts with an international values of Rs 290 million. A team of customs staff posted at JIAP led by Syed Asad Raza Rizvi, Additional Collector JIAP and Ali Raza Turabi, Deputy Collector Customs immediately reached to the pointed PIA aircraft which was still parked at Bay-2. The search resulted into the recovery of two polythene packets containing light brown 1 kilogram heroin powder recovered from two lavatories at 2F1R and 3F1L (one packet from each lavatory) duly concealed in the ceiling panels of the said aircraft.
In yet another action, another credible information resulted into recovery of one black color polythene packet containing light brown heroin powder 700 grams recovered from the concealment in the heating compound adjacent to the commode of aircraft lavatory No 3F-LC duly. The recovered heroin was also tested with Narcotics Testing Kit and found heroin.
Moreover, the Customs Preventive authorities also recovered at least 200 kilograms of charas from a truck bound for Karachi. While in another action against smuggling of diesel, the Customs Preventive seized some 457,577 liters of Iranian diesel worth Rs37.91 while the performance of the collectorate last year low as it had seized only 165,417 liters of diesel worth Rs 14.30 million.
