ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs Collector Seema Raza Bokhari asked high officials of Motorway police to adopt a new strategy against smuggling of foreign origin goods.
This initiative is taken to save the economy of the country as well as to save the tax paid business community, the Collector said during a meeting with two IGs (Inspector Generals) and Deputy Inspector General of Motorway Police while other participants compromised Additional Collector Muhammad Ashfaq Khan and Deputy Collector Headquarter Miryam Khalid.
Assistant Collector Rao Fahad Khan gave a presentation on those issues faced by the MCC during operations against the smugglers and tax evaders who use Motorway for smuggling of NDP foreign origin goods and narcotics.
Following decisions were taken during the meeting that no chasing or stoppage of vehicles on motorway will be carried out by the Customs mobile staff and the Customs authorities will inform the focal person of the Motorway police for stoppage of suspected vehicles which can be checked at the service areas as well as at the weigh stations.
Telephone numbers of focal person from the both sides were also exchanged while a list of focal persons with cell numbers of anti smuggling section of MCC Islamabad was handed over to the Motorway officials. It was also decided that sector commander will be available on phone all the time and focal person of customs can contact him.
At the end of the meeting Collector Seema Raza Bokhari thanked the guests for participating in the meeting to form a strategy against smuggling of illicit trade while the Collector MCC Islamabad presented souvenirs to the senior officers of Motorway Police and took a group photograph.
